Rugged Hybrid and Hard Case for Travel
I've been looking for a solution to traveling with a bike for a decade. I tried a Dahon, but it's just too compromised. The Rugged Hybrid with Carbon fork is basically perfect for me. I love hybrids. Riding postion, speed, flexibility - I can take this on trails or ride centuries. The frame is rigid and uncompromised by the folding mechanism - which itself is easy to use and fast. In short, it feels a lot like my Gary Fisher Mendota, and even almost on par with my Cannondale Quick Carbon. It's not even heavy. The quick folding and packing means that the only thing I had to do was remove the handlebars. Everything else was quick release. I didn't try to use the folding stem to bypass the need to remove bars, but I suppose it's possible they'd fit in the case just by folding.. I also bought the hard case for travel - and it's perfect. Was free to check on Alaska and I brought it to Maui with me on this trip. Couldn't be happier. Was easy to navigate through airport, the TSA opened it and put it back together without any issues apparently (they twisted the straps, but no harm) and I was able to fit a TON of bike gear in there too - helmet, tools, clothing etc. After years of expensive, crappy rentals, and nightmarish disassembly and reassembly of "full size" bikes, the ability to fold and pack/unpack in the space of two minutes is amazing. The bike is just lovely. The more I live with it the happier I get. I might switch to a set of pop-off SPDs, but right now I'm blissfully happy with the combo.

Wow, Frank. We didn't realize this was the end of a decade-long search. That makes it even more special! Great comparison vs. more well known frame geometries. "Blissfully happy." Love it!

Flatbike & Change 811 Hybrid Folding Bike
I ordered a Change 811 hybrid folding bicycle from Bob at Flatbike. He seemed genuinely caring that I end up with a bike that was just right for my needs. He shipped it in a very timely fashion and I LOVE the bike. It didn't take me very long to unpack and get it ready to ride and I can tell that it is going to be very easy for me to fold to pack and unfold to ride. Actually, I plan to buy a couple of accessories from him next, so that is a high recommendation...repeat business. :) Thank you, Flatbike! <3

Great Customer Service
Made a trip to Kirkland to check out size difference between 17 and 19 because I was right in the middle of the size chart. Ended up being a great experience. My husband bought the 21'" 811 and I bought the 19". Bob was super knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely customer service oriented. We plan on taking our bikes on our sailboat for easy island touring. Can't wait to take them on our first trip.

Thanks again for the visit, Leann. I enjoyed it as well, and I'm glad these are the perfect bikes for sailing. We'd love to see pics on the boat!

Purchase of Change folding frame from Flatbike
Bob helped with my questions before the purchase, then offered a 'factory soiled' option when he realised the frame wasn't available in my size. Also gave a discount for combined delivery - some others just don't care if you're an o/s buyer. Frame was well-packed, delivery quick and as easy as DHL could make it. (But note that apart from GST and import duties, Aus customs also adds a smallish processing fee). All of this made what could've been a stressful purchase a good experience.

Thanks, Fay. It's always great when the complexities of international shipping all work out. We'd love to see what your final bikes look like when they're built out!

Perfect for those in tiny homes needing a serious bike
I live aboard a boat in the summer, and keeping a full-sized bike onboard just wasn't working. It was always either inconveniently taking up space in the salon down below, or left outside to the elements and inviting theft. Transporting it to/from shore in the dinghy was a nightmare. I sold that bike several years ago (Giant Defy Advanced), and bought a small folding bike. They work, but it's just not a pleasant riding experience. It was (very) basic transportation, and nothing more. Rarely did I take it out for pleasure. I came across Flatbike looking for a higher end folding bike, and couldn't believe what I was seeing. After taking some measurements, I found I had a perfectly sized locker aboard that could accommodate it once folded. I emailed the company to ask about clearances on last year's 612, and they managed to find me one in my size. It arrived in Canada less than a week later. And what a machine. There is precisely no way to know that you're on a folding bike. It feels like any other high-end mountain bike. It's lightweight and absolutely solid; the brakes are phenominal, and the shifting is flawless. The front suspension is unlike anything else I've personally had on a bike. Folding is a snap, and it fits exactly where I'd hoped it would. Plus, driving a small car, I tested and it also fits perfectly in my trunk. I haven't even really begun to explore its capabilities, but I plan to hit some hydrocut and logging trails as soon as it warms up a little more. I'm stoked! My only problem? I want their roadbike, too. :)

We had a great experience and enjoyed our time with Bob Forgrave. He has followed up promptly as we ordered an accessory kick stand and in providing a recommendation for a rear rack. Riding the bike has been a pleasure.

Love the flatten your bike kit I got for my Specialized Turbo Vado. Everything fit well and is of high quality. The pedals where missing the reflectors but Flatbike was super responsive and is sending me a new set. The box was pre-sealed so I doubt they could have known the pieces where missing. The pedals where great otherwise.

Wonderful product
Wonderful product. I assembled it in 15 minutes. My only recommendations would be -- 1) have the snap handle be colored bright metallic blue or red to make it look distinctive. 2) Add a ring on the device that would display the true position of the front wheel as a white mark and add a corresponding white mark on the handle bar holder so that a detente can be created to achieve a quick orientation when "unflattening" the bike.

About
Full-size bikes are fun and easy to ride, but not so fun and easy to store and transport. Do you buy a bike rack for your car, driving around with the sensors covered and valuables outside your car---or is there a better way? When your bike is inside, how do you keep it conveniently accessible, yet out of the way?
This is what makes Flatbike so popular. Flatbike solves these problems, whether you already have a bike you like or are in the market for one that fits your life better.
Full-size folding bikes, including mountain bikes, hybrids, and gravel bikes, offer a quality riding experience. Then these bikes simply fold in half to fit conveniently in a car trunk, truck cab, RV cubbyhole, or below deck in a boat.
Or, if you already have a bike that you love but it takes up too much space, a Flatten Your Bike kit can make your existing bike fold flat in seconds, fitting easily against walls in small apartments or garages.
Ultimately, these improvements make your bike more compatible with transportation and where you live. Put it all together, and you end up with bikes that are more accessible, more portable, and take you more places to ride and explore. It’s portable adventure!
