Better Mortgage messed up my 1st loan…
Better Mortgage messed up my 1st loan application. I was preapproved, but then they denied my loan on the last day of the financial contingency. I already had everything ready to go, utilities set up, furniture and appliances scheduled to ship. And I had to cancel all that. They should never had let me go that far and denied my loan at the end. It let down so many parties. I asked them how much I could qualify if I could not qualify for the original amount. They had me filled out a 2nd application. On the 2nd application, they verified that I should have qualified for the original loan amount. So I had to go through the process all over again. This time the seller didn't trust me because I canceled the contract on the last day of the financial contingency. I had to put down non-refundable deposit for the seller to sell me the house. Anyway, they did approve the same loan on my 2nd application. I was able to buy the house eventually. But due to the mistake they made on my first loan application, I now have a higher interest rate (because mortgage rates have gone up since then), and I spent so much time on canceling all the deliveries and getting refunds on them. If you want to use Better Mortgage, make sure they fully qualify you very early in the process.

Think twice
It was already emotional enough trying to deal with moving out of state for employment reasons. When it became a reality that I would need to sell my home and relocate, I had heard nothing but great things about Better Mortgage from friends and colleagues and decided it would be the best option based on the reviews I had personally heard. I would like it known that my journey with Better Mortgage has been nothing but rocky and has done nothing but cause more grief and agony for myself during this chaotic time frame. The lack of response I received from my "coordinator" after my loan left the hands of my loan consultant was comical. When I addressed the issue it was received with excuses and the fact that my loan was transferred to her on Presidents Day. Yet other Better Mortgage employees had reached out to me on a Sunday... so would it be wrong to think someone would be there on Presidents Day? The final straw was leas than 24hrs before closing when my "coordinator" informed me that after reviewing my 401k statement, there were pages missing and it was imperative that I get the missing pages turned in ASAP. Had this been brought to my attention prior to packing up my entire life into boxes and loading them into a moving truck, I could se this as a reasonable request. The fact that it was asked of me so close to closing AND AFTER I WAS ALREADY ASSURED EVERYTHING WAS IN PLACE, is a complete deal breaker and is where my trust with Better Mortgage has been severed. Trying to close on one home, while your entire life is in boxes, loaded on trucks, trying to coordinate an out of state move and close on a new house all while trying to ensure that all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed has brought me to my breaking point. I would have expected better from a company that came so highly recommended. My "coordinator" assured me the issue was escalated to management, but when I asked to speak with them I was told it would be 24-48 hours for someone to make that call... when I closed in a little over 12 hours be that point. I was then told that there would be a $1,000 concession "approved by management" due to the error and it was applied almost immediately… but nobody from management could call me for 24-48 hours. My closing on this property and the nightmare with Better Mortgage could not have ended soon enough. I want to thank Better Mortgage for the amount of stress and unnecessary worry that they were able to kept me filled with these past few weeks.

WASTE OF TIME-Go elsewhere
Better took 5 weeks to consider my application. They gave me pre approval immediately, and ‘approval’ after 2 weeks. Three weeks later, while submitting final paperwork to initiate my closing, my loan was canceled. They cited a late on my record that was AVAILABLE AND DISCUSSED WITH THEM 3 weeks earlier! They used approval personnel in 3 separate states to assess my file, and apparently one hand was not talking to the other. They then kept my loan OPEN AND APPROVED on their site for another FIVE DAYS, even asking me (after their denial email) for additional paperwork needed for the ‘closing.’ They also changed my home insurance, adding themselves and cancelling off my current lender, and never even bothered to correct the matter days after they denied the loan!! I had to do it. I subsequently got the loan (closed it) I wanted this same week thru a competitor in FIVE DAYS. They still had my loan as open and approved, despite their careless denial email. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. You can find BETTER..I did!

The whole process is online
The whole process is online, which is great. The site is super clean and easy to use with a dashboard that outlines outstanding tasks and where you're at in the process. My mortgage rep was very responsive and spent time answering all my questions. Overall a very fast, easy experience.

Jamie was excellent, prompt and very understanding of any issues coming up as we went through this entire process which can be complicated , time consuming and quite daunting. Honest lender, work like a tech company
To be honest, I was initially apprehensive with the self-serving model and no salesperson chasing you. However, I had a great experience and my loan agents acted like advisors and keeping me on track with respect to the task outstanding. Though it went a little close to escrow, they kept me informed and I had a successfully closing. There zero commission model is great and they provide unmatched transparency. Would love to work with them again.
