I would do it again.
I thought this form of testing was great and would use it again. Obtaining the specimen was easy for me. Everything I needed was included and the instructions were clear and easy to understand. The mail was slow, so I called to check on things. Customer service was very pleasant and helpful. My results came quickly once the specimen was received. The results included a lot of good quality info I can use to help myself and share with my doctor.

I am so glad you offer this test!
I am so glad you offer this test! I am actively trying to increase my Omega-3's level so it is great to have a place where it can be tested accurately.

I liked how much research they put into this test. My omega 6 levels were high and omega 3 levels were low, and because of this test, now I know the amount of omega 3 I should take.

This is doable.
OmegaQuant has educated me on the importance of EPA and the Omega-3 index in my health. Strangely, my health care professionals are not engaged in this. OmegaQuant gives us the tools to make changes to increase our Omega-3 index ourselves. And over time I have moved my level above 8. So…it is doable. I encourage everyone to investigate this and improve their health.

Easy to Use Draw Kit
Easy to use blood draw kit with clear instructions. Quick results delivered electronically. Would have liked to have had greater explanation of the Complete Fatty Acid Report in terms of where is best point to be at on the reference range.

Decent, inexpensive, but slow
pretty convenient to online order and mail in the tests. Cost is 1/2 - 2/3 of alternatives I looked at. Knocked a couple stars off because the process is rather slow. I think it took about 10 days to get an email that the test was received. Possibly a USPS issue but around the same time I mailed something to Denver and that was received in 2 days. Then the test took a good week. Bottom line is I would recommend the test unless you do need quick results. In that case I would use one of the labcorp tests which I expect would have results in a day or two (based on the time prescription lab work takes with them).

Challenges
It did take a bit longer than previous company I have used, but all went somewhat smoothly. The instructions on the printed enclosed card, in the kit, should be much more specific, about how much blood to use in filling the 3 circles completely. Once you register the test sample, that information is on the website...but it might be too late by then, if kit has already been packaged & mailed.

About
OmegaQuant is an independent, CLIA-certified lab that offers nutritional & health status testing to researchers, clinicians and the public. We test:
- Omega-3 Index
- Vitamin D
- Prenatal DHA
- Mother's Milk DHA
Our goal is to offer the highest quality analytical services to researchers and to provide simple tests of nutritional status to consumers, with the ultimate purpose of advancing the science and use of nutrients to improve health.
Our Story
Dr. Bill Harris, a leading expert in omega-3 fatty acids, founded OmegaQuant in 2009. He obtained his Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from the University of Minnesota and did post-doctoral fellowships in Clinical Nutrition and Lipid Metabolism with Dr. Bill Connor at the Oregon Health Sciences University.
His interest in omega-3 fatty acids began with his postdoctoral work when he published his first study on the effects of salmon oil on serum lipids in humans (1980). Since that time he has been the recipient of five NIH grants for studies on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) on human health.
He has more than 350 publications relating to fatty acids, including omega-3s, in medical literature and was an author on two American Heart Association scientific statements on fatty acids: “Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease” (2002), and “Omega-6 Fatty Acids and Risk for Cardiovascular Disease” (2009) both published in the journal Circulation.
Dr. Harris co-invented the Omega-3 Index in 2004 and made it commercially available to the research community and the public in 2009. To date, the Omega-3 Index has been used as the standard measure of omega-3 status in more than 200 clinical studies.
Dr. Harris is also a Professor in the Department of Medicine in the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota.
Dr. Harris moved on as OmegaQuant’s President in late 2020 to establish the Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI), where he will go back to his roots of conducting research on fatty acids and health.
