Customer Service Nightmare: My Disappointing Experience with Porkbun
I am utterly dismayed by the abysmal level of customer service provided by Porkbun. Two months ago, I encountered an issue where I lost access to my account, and despite numerous attempts to resolve it, I have been met with nothing but frustration and incompetence from their supposed customer support team. Porkbun boasts about its stringent security measures, but in reality, these measures have only served to hinder legitimate customers like myself. Contrastingly, when faced with a similar issue with Enom, another domain registrar, they promptly resolved the issue, showcasing what true customer support looks like. It's ironic that I chose to transfer my domains from Enom to Porkbun, enticed by Porkbun's flashy advertising and promises of superior service. However, this experience has proven to be a grave mistake. Enom, which has earned my business since 2016, has consistently provided exemplary customer service, a quality sorely lacking in Porkbun. I have decided to transfer all 15 of my domains back to Enom as soon as this issue with Porkbun is resolved. Furthermore, I will not hesitate to warn others about the appalling customer service at Porkbun, despite their hefty advertising budget. It's evident that Porkbun prioritizes marketing over actually providing professional customer service, a disgraceful approach for any company. In conclusion, my experience with Porkbun has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I strongly advise anyone considering their services to think twice before entrusting them with their business.

I do apologize. It looks like the person handling your case was out today and it did not get assigned to another agent. We understand that we did not live up to your expectations in our ability to restore access to your account promptly. We do handle all account access cases very carefully and methodically so that we do not end up granting access to bad actors, who are constantly trying to gain access. We know it can be slow and frustrating at times for actual account owners who have lost their credentials, 2FA, phone number, etc. It looks like an account access link has been emailed to you now based on positive ID verification and that all of your domains are safe and able to be renewed. We wish you well if you choose to no longer remain a customer, but also hope you'll stay and give us another chance.

Your website is not easy to navigate…
Your website is not easy to navigate and your overall user interface is poor. For a tech company I feel that your overall interface could use serious improvement. It’s like using a poorly designed state government site with technology from the 90’s. Even this review area is poor. It makes me regret ever doing business with you company

Thank you for the review. Could you provide some specific details about what you feel is lacking or could be improved upon? Were there areas of the site that were not working for you?

Bitcoin payment method unusable for me now as it forces me to use Coinbase.
It's pretty weird as you change Bitcoin payment method to unusable only-Coinbase version which left me with no option other than leave Porkbun. Edit after Porkbun answer: Dear Porkbun.com you are one of the biggest domain purchase company. You are not dependant on Coinbase company. There are tons of companies can liquidize any known crypto currency for you with very good options.
Date of experience: February 21, 2024
Sorry about that, we understand that it's probably frustrating. Coinbase Commerce changed the way we are able to accept crypto through them. We're hoping Bitcoin becomes an option again in the future.

I somehow bought my domain but can't log in to the stupid site. I keep getting verification numbers that don't do anything. Says it doesn't recongize my password even though it's 100% correct and my phone saved it. Talks about 2 step verification that was never set up and I can't reset my password. This was a bloody nightmare

Despite this site's marketing claims, their Google usage means your lack of data privacy
There's a link at the very bottom of each porkbun page - just know there's no privacy since all your information is shared with Google, who shares it internally, with third-parties, offshore, etc. When we asked their support about this, porkbun didn't reply. Click on the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service links to see Google's (complete lack of) privacy page, which is what you're "agreeing" to when you use this porkbun site. reCAPTCHA is also owned by Google. Check out makeuseof dot com/tag/google-recaptcha-captures-private-information/ for more interesting info. Security and data collection are for the website owners you visit while data collection and no privacy for you when using Google sites and reCAPTCHAs. You may not want to use Chrome - same Google "security" while they're collecting your data and no privacy issue.
Date of experience: February 13, 2024
All of your information is not shared with Google. We use Google's reCaptcha service and Google Analytics like a lot of other websites do. Here's a pretty good tinfoil hat if you're in the market: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1661118567/tinfoil-hat

I switched because your yearly renewal…
UPDATE: Nothing I said was incorrect. I signed up for $9.73. You increased it to $10.37. The reasons why you increased it don't matter to me. I took the time to transfer everything to you based on the $9.73 price only to have you increase it shortly after. You said "No we didn't" when I said you increased the price, which is a lie, and then went on to blame me for not paying attention, which is rude and insulting. I paid perfect attention to what the price was when I signed up. It's higher now. I really, really hope a manager at your company sees this and reaches out because you are an embarrassment to customer service. I switched because your yearly renewal prices were low. Now you jacked them up. I'm not happy. Will probably look elsewhere. Reply: Wow, Porkbun is rude!! I thought this was a professional company. Just, wow! I'm not an idiot I researched several companies before switching and I checked the renewal rate before doing so. I'm for sure leaving now. They are crooks who lie to you. I am changing my review to 1-star, but I wish I could select no stars. When I signed up the renewal rate was listed as $9.73, but they changed it to $10.37. I hope the manager of whoever responded sees this and fires them. What kind of company blames the customer??? REPLY: tld-list is the site I used to find you, sadly. I'll help you out as well. Enter "Customer Service Online Training Courses" in a search engine and click on the first option that comes up.

Update: Ok, you win. We're horrible evil people hellbent on jacking up prices and blaming our customers. Here's a list of registrars and their pricing: https://tld-list.com/tld/com Several sell .com below cost so you should find a registrar that suits your needs. Spoiler alert, when the registry for .com raises their prices so will everyone on this list. Update: We're rude because we corrected your incorrect information? We are not crooks and we do not lie, we're very clear and upfront with our prices. Prices go up, on everything, even domains. Surely you understand this. When a registry raises their price, we have to as well or we'll be selling below cost and losing money. Since you're not an idiot, I know you realize that businesses cannot sell below cost and understand that when our margin is 0 that retail prices have to increase when wholesale prices increase. We don't "blame the customer", but when a customer leaves a review stating bad information we do correct it. Original: No we didn't. We don't jack up prices. Either the registry raised the wholesale cost or you didn't pay attention to the renewal rate when you registered the domain. All of your domains in particular have very low and normal renewal prices.

Gave my contact info away
Gave my contact info to dozens, if not hundreds, of spam/scam companies offering web services I did not request.

No we didn't, you just didn't read and pay attention to the multiple warnings that we display when registering a .US domain. Here's the warning that we display in big red letters: 🛑 PRIVACY DANGER 🛑 This TLD does not allow WHOIS privacy and does not redact personal contact information. This means that your personal contact information will be sent to the registry and they will display it publicly. Your data will be harvested and you are almost guaranteed to be endlessly spammed. Please don't go leaving us a 1 star review and blame us when you don't read this and end up getting spammed.

I count four attempts, not seven. The first one failed due to an invalid card number and the second and third attempts were blocked by your bank. None of these were due to any issue on our side.

MASSIVE SPAM CALL
Since using this service, I've been getting tons of spam. I can't leave my phone on; I have to keep it in silent mode because I get over 30 advertising calls a day. I am very upset because I have missed important calls because of it.

Awful customer service
Awful customer service. Emails get replied so late and phone number never works. Overpriced, not worth the price. They put many blocks so you keep purchasing higher plans every time you need stuff done.

None of what you said is true, maybe you're reviewing the wrong company?

So much security theater
So much security theater, and so little customer service. The API is poorly(inaccurately) documented, inconsistent, and surprisingly buggy. This is an acceptable alternative now that the best is gone, but this pig is among the bottle of the barrel. They have a bounty program, but they're clearly inundated and don't even respond. Even, their API "secret" is just a two-part string that has to be provided as two variables. Considering the reply is essentially, "works for me" mixed with "go away," it's worth stating that my intention is absolutely to go away. They are correct, this is a company worth avoiding.
Date of experience: January 31, 2024
Update: It will be sad to see you go, but we understand. Original: None of our security is theater, I assure you. Every hoop we require you to jump through is there for a reason. As for the API, if you find a bug you can report it and we can look into it. That said, we have 1000's of folks using our API successfully every day. Not sure why you would even continue doing business with a company you rate 1 star, kind of weird.

Very bad support and services
Support is very bad, never again will purchase from porkbun even not suggest to anyone

It looks like you gave our support a great rating on your last interaction. It also looks like you were having issues with 3rd party hosting and name servers which we can't really help with.

I have over 50 domains hosted at PB and…
I have over 50 domains hosted at PB and I haven't had access to my account for nearly 2 weeks now and nothing seems to be changing. Every time I reach out to support I just get the typical canned scripted response. This company has gone downhill a lot over the last couple of years.
Date of experience: January 31, 2024
Sorry you're having troubles getting access to your account. I see you first reached out to our support department regarding account access via email on January 27th and we attempted to schedule a callback with you. Then it looks like you contacted us via chat on January 30th and we sent you a link to an account recovery form. Doesn't look like two weeks is accurate, more like four days? I know not being able to access your account is frustrating but we have to enforce strict security protocols when a user is unable to login via the usual process. The risk of allowing an unauthorized user to access an account is too great. In your case, it looks like you were not receiving the 2FA codes being sent out by the system. Unfortunately, the email address for your account was not the email address you mentioned in the chat (well, not the one you said the 2FA should be going to) so my guess is that you were checking the wrong email address for the codes or maybe used an incorrect email address when you created your account. I'd recommend searching for "porkbun.com | 2FA Code" in other email addresses you might use. We did successfully deliver six 2FA access codes to the email address associated with the account on January 27th and one on January 30th. It looks like this is all in the process of getting resolved, so hopefully you'll be able to regain access soon.

No information and communication after submitting domain transfer request
Wanted to transfer my domain to Porkbun due to all the good reviews and was even considering renewing with Porkbun for 5 years but was extremely disappointed. After submitting my transfer request, I was redirected to a signup page to register a new account. After creating the new account, there was no indication that my transfer request was submitted and/or being processed. There was also no email sent to me regarding my transfer request. I searched through all the account settings but no information on my transfer request whatsoever. Clicking on "Domain Management" just brought me to Porkbun's domain price list page while "View Orders" showed no transactions, not even pending transactions. I thought that maybe my transfer request did not go through so I submitted the request a 2nd time. Again, nothing from Porkbun. I understand from reviews that Porkbun is a small company compared to other companies so i did not expect much. However, absolute zero communication and information presentation is too much for me. I have domains with Namecheap, Namesilo and Z.com and they handled my domain transfers professionally with proper communication and information presentation without having to resort to speaking to customer service for such a simple transaction. I submitted my domain transfer request on 26 Jan 2024 and today (30 Jan 2024), I have yet to receive any updates from Porkbun. Hence I decided to write this review on Trustpilot to let others know about my bad experience. Despite all the good reviews about Porkbun, I cannot trust this company when they cannot even handle a single domain transfer properly with adequate communication and the proper presentation of information in the accounts page. P.S. Trustpilot asked to include the Order Number for this review and this is why I decided not to use Porkbun at all. There is no pending transaction record in Porkbun's accounts page so I cannot even give an Order Number or Pending Transaction Number to prove that I submitted a transfer request.
Date of experience: January 26, 2024
Hello and thank you for the review. Sorry you had issues with your transfer. When you submit a transfer there should be a section in the domain management console titled "manage transfers" which should show the statuses of all pending transfers. Since you didn't see it and you also didn't see any orders listed on the orders page it sounds like the transfer itself was never purchased. We'd have to dig in though to see what happened. We do 100's of successful transfers every day so it could have been a fluke. Hopefully the rest of your experience with us is better than 1 star.

Poor purchasing experience
Poor purchasing experience, there’s no customer service in making up for the experience with promo codes or what not. tedious process to register an account, upon failure u can’t try again. troublesome process just to cart out, and once again upon unsuccessful transaction, u get blocked again.

Sounds like you might be getting caught up in some overzealous fraud prevention mechanisms. In your case, your card was being declined by the bank directly.

Porkbun won't process my card payment
New user here. Porkbun won't process my card payment (tried 3 times), thus I had to resort to another domain registrar, where my card payment worked. Reached out to support during office hours via the chat feature on their website and haven't received any response for 2hrs already. I don't understand why you'd have a chat window support if the communication is that slow.
