TERRIBLE experience with WP…
Had a terrible experience with WP Diamonds. I am looking to sell 2 diamond rings that I no longer wear, these 2 pieces are on the smaller sides from my collections, and because they have been just sitting there, I was thinking either to sell them or perhaps convert them into pendents. After looking into getting a couple of estimates, I decided to go with WP Diamonds, because their estimate was $150 more than others, and Mark, the rep that I have been corresponding was more professional and helpful. Upon my visit to their office, Mark's demeanor was a bit rude, I almost thought perhaps this was not the same person I was corresponding with over the email. Once the gemologist checked and confirmed the piece, "Mark" came in and told me that their final price is $xxxx ($150) less than quoted. I asked what happened to the the estimate he had mentioned to me via email? He said that was the highest of the range and that the diamond's girdle was thick. Excuse me? I had provided the GIA certificate for their estimate and on the certificate the girdle thickness is very clearly indicated, but now WP Diamond is trying to stiff me $150 because "the girdle is thick"? In other words - this company provides quotes higher then others, knowing that this will bring in more customers, and since most people who sell jewelries are typically in desperate situations, they won't walk away because of $150. Well, I was already loosing $5,000 from what I paid for. So I told him - "No, I will keep it. Thanks." He was very rude, didn't even bother to look at me and then pointed to the exit for me to leave. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.
Edited to respond to WP's response: Interesting that their response is very detailed and a LOT more than what Mark had said to me - he literally said to me "because the girdle is thick" when I asked him why is the offer $7,000 and not $7,150? There was no "Do you have any questions? Can I explain how did we come to the $7,000 offer?" NOTHING. He just pointed to the exit for me to leave.
As for your excuse of me not negotiating? Isn't by me asking "Why is the offer $7,000 and not $7,150?" the start of a negotiation? You're buying diamonds at a ridiculously low price from people, yet you want to make me out to be the unreasonable person here. I hope my review will be serve as warning for anyone who is looking to sell their diamonds.
