Everything went quite smoothly
Everything went quite smoothly. I started researching Reverse Mortgages about three years ago. Dawn Bestafka responded to my inquiry at that time and never gave up. She was courteous, and persistent but not obnoxious. She is knowledgible and was able to answer all my questions with clarity. I was very comfortable knowing that I could contact her at any time. All in all, dealing with GoodLife Home Loans was a very fine experience.

Mr. Maffe provided me with excellent customer service and easy to understand information, but also conducted his business with courtesy, kindness and good humor. I had been contacted by a number of other company representatives who no only did not seem to have the knowledge that Mike had, but did not show the level of respect that Mike showed to me. A Great Experience!
I applied for this loan at a very stressful time in my life. The whole experience was so positive. My loan officer Dawn Bestafka is the best. She expertly guided me through all the steps in the process and was always available for questions when I had them. When a few small hurdles occurred she knew what needed to be done to resolve them. Because of COVID there were some new options such as a drive by appraisal. I felt like she genuinely cared about me and my situation and worked really hard to get the best outcome for me. I like many others had heard about some “negatives” regarding reverse mortgages. As part of the process you are required to get counseling which is invaluable in educating you about any & all questions you might have. Because of this I was 100% comfortable going forward. I have peace of mind that I’ll be able to take care of some immediate needs. Thanks to Dawn for giving me this.

I should begin by saying that I give Mike Maffe 5 stars for the work that he did and his availability to respond to my questions and to provide relevant information concerning the Reverse Mortgage process. He is very professional. I feel that the process could use some tweeking in particular as it relates to the Appraisal process and the communication between Goodlife, the appraiser and the home owner. If I am having to pay for the appraisal, I should have some "say so" in the selection process. End result was fine..getting there a bit amateurish.

Larry, Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate it. Mike Maffe is fantastic and thinks the world of you. On the appraisal selection, we hear you, and know how you feel. On May 1, 2009, the Home Valuation Code of Conduct (HVCC) created a set of rules for the mortgage lending and real estate appraisal industries. The intended purpose of the HVCC is to create and protect appraiser independence and prevent pressure from being applied to appraisers to produce a desired property value. Not only can you have zero influence on which appraiser is selected, but the same is true with us. We cannot select the appraiser and we cannot communicate directly (by phone or email) with the appraiser. For 11 years now, we do what every company does and order the appraisals through a 3rd party entity called an Appraisal Management Company (AMC). This AMC operates as an escrow, or middleman, to order all appraisals. Trust me, Larry, we know how you feel, but you and I have no chance to intervene and influence who the appraiser will be. Fortunately, all appraisers are licensed and bonded and try their best to come in with the appropriate home value. Let me end with something more important than anything -- and that's you. I had the most wonderful experience. My loan officer is a real pro. I am the biggest skeptic and she eased my mind every step of the way. She was very kind and patient. She had an answer for every question. On a scale of 1-10, she's a 20. At the beginning of the process, I was very uneasy. She calmed all my fears. She's The Best.
