Bad robotic service
The website employs a lot of automatic feature to process my loans. I ended up getting questions that do not make sense. No real experienced staff with loan knowledge would actually review my answers. If my answers do not fit in to their standard expectations, I get a lot of unrelated questions. The process is very frustrated. I do not recommend it. Yes, it is cheap, however.

Joker mortgage lender
Earlier this year a recruiter from better contacted me and that's how I heard them. I did some research on Google for customer reviews. I had the impression that better mortgage is fast in loan processing and 100% online. It was attracting for me at that time since I don't want to go places due to COVID-19. I started online application on May 8th. I finish all tasks in several hours. On May 19th I received an email stating that the loan is conditionally approved. The loan processor asked me whether to go with the CEMA option and I said yes. She said it could take five weeks. Five weeks later I still received no update so I sent an email. She replied "I will let you know when I have an update from attorney". Two days later I asked if she had an update from the attorney she said no. Then I asked why can't you just call the attorney to get an update? One day later she said it will be ready in a couple of days. Another week passed without update. I send an email asking for a phone call since I have some questions to ask. No reply. I tried several times still no reply. I called the phone number on my loan page then I just realized that all those phone numbers just direct to customer service. During that week I called customer service for about 10 times. Each time the response was the same: She was in a meeting and will get back to you later. I also ask customer service to tell her manager and manager's manager. Customer service did that. But still no response in any form. Not even from her manager. I gave up finally since even if her managers don't care what can I do? After that all the email I received was "Thank you for your patience." That sounds like from a reply from customer service but no that's from my loan processor and all she said to me. I failed to get any phone call for three months and she was always in a meeting. They are not busy for sure. They work 8 hours a day and my loan processor took two long vacations during that three months. Without caring about the work they have done. I know right now a lot of loan originators are super busy in New York but I really don't understand how do they manage to take so many vacations. Then on Aug 4th I finally received an email from her saying that she will move the case to closing team despite a lot of her unfinished tasks. Two weeks later I am asked to choose a closing date. I chose Aug 25th. At 7pm before that day I received a phone call telling me that they cannot make it since they didn't finish their tasks. Then I rescheduled it to Sept 1st. On 7pm August 31st I received a phone call from them again with the same excuse. He also said that my appraisal is expired. I don't know how could he say that at ease. It expired only because of their incompetence and I don't know why they just tell me that several hours before closing. If you are considering a loan through better mortgage you'd better look elsewhere. It's important to work with a human. At better.com once you start you are completely cutoff. Don't even hope to get timely updates. It's a complete blackbox to you. Also, fast processing is just a shameless lie. I worked with several other banks and closed two of them before, their processing time is about 2-4 times faster than better.com. More importantly there is a real human I can talk to. Some other things I need to mention: A lot of the closing cost including rate of points increased in the initial closing disclosure. Some items even increase several times in amount. I don't why they can still increase them after rate lock down and they refuse to give explanation. They said their rate is lowest and they will match lower rates. I really doubt that. My locked rate at better was 3% + 1.47% points. A month later I asked two other banks I worked before, one of them is 3% with no points and another is 2.99% with no points. Since the quotes are not at the same time I am not exactly sure.

These guys are AWESOME!!!
SHORT: These guys are AWESOME! Fastest and smoothest Refi we've ever done! (our 4th refi in 18yrs) We knew they were a good company when they honored a mistakenly advertised rate on Bankrate.com. TLDR: While browsing rates on Bankrate.com last June I saw a 2.25% w/ 0 Points/15yr so decided it was time to refi from our 30yr 3.25%. Did some googling and after a very quick online application late on Saturday, 20 Jun (yes they work weekends), we were pre-approved by 6am the next morning (Sunday)! But then I saw that there were 2 discount pts added to the quote. :( At first I thought this was a bait-n-switch, but they had great reviews online so I asked about the points and showed them the "0 points" advertised rate on Bankrate...well they quickly replied honoring the advertised rate w/ 0 points! Unfortunately, I waited a little too long to lock which caused the points to creep up a bit but we still locked on 23 Jun at 2.25%/15yr with only .19% points! (yes POINT 19!). It was only a 30day lock but I had all our paperwork ready to upload and was confident we wouldn't be any hold up. Fortunately the whole online experience was very streamlined, went super-fast and they were ready to close on 8 July, only 15 days after lock! That's pretty fast compared to our others! They also refunded the $500 appraisal fee because it wasn't needed. I recommend you have your income & employment verification info ready to upload right when you apply and also setup your IRS login accounts in advance. (My IRS account creation had a phone# verification glitch but thankfully Better.com allowed that to slide and used our joint tax return as the additional verification.) We cannot be happier with how smooth this refi went! Thanks Better.com

Great service happy customer
I can honestly attest and give you my experience. Some positive experiences: * Almost all of the process was online on a near website, where you are alerted to any new tasks or issues or comments. * I really loved the call scheduling process online. Though this is one area they could improve upon. In a total of 10 calls scheduled by me 7 actually resulted in a call from them. * They hired one of the best title agents I have had the experience to work with. Unlike your regular agents that shove papers down your throat faster then you can process them, the agent (Marcos) was super considerate and explained everything in a way where we were confident that we are making the right move. * One of the best refinance rates I have seen. I jumped almost 1.5% rate from where I was (3.99 to 2.625) that’s a big deal!! Overall, my experience with Better was really “Better” than I expected. Would highly recommend it to you, family, and friends.

Better.com is such a great mortgage…
Better.com is such a great mortgage company. We applied on 9/6 and closed on 9/22! They have an awesome team that keeps you updated on what needs to be done via "tasks". They are very responsive and answer any questions promptly. We highly recommend this company!

Lowest fees, best rates and complete transparency
Almost entirely online and 100% transparency. You see all their offers and rates and can lock your selection in minutes. They have the lowest fees and best rates I could find.

Great experience …
Was shopping around for refi when better.com was referred to me. Most agents I was talking for popular loan companies were very sketchy. Better was really good and I think the no commision model makes a difference. Initially I thought that no commision means agents will be disinterested, but it was really good. Good follow up and quick responses. The whole process took 3 weeks.

Fast, overall experience was as good as could be expected.
Refinancing in Texas (with our weird real estate laws)- Better was great throughout the process. It took about five weeks overall. Their “digital-native” platform is great for busy Millennials (or others :) ) such as myself who don’t have time to navigate a ton of phone trees to speak with someone, and haven’t seen a fax machine in years to submit docs (other banks are somehow still doing business this way!) Better assigns a team of people for three phases of the process- a “Mortgage Expert”, who helps with initial review up until rate lock; a “Processing Expert”, who shepherds the loan through underwriting and doc verifications; and a “Closing Expert” who takes it from underwriting to Close. My team was great, though the title company suggested was a bit of a mess (I could have comparison-shopped for that if I’d wanted to though). I’d also like to mention that I was refinancing amidst the Fannie/Freddie “0.5% Market Risk Fee” announcement. I’d locked my rate with that fee implicitly included, but after it was announced it wouldn’t apply to any loans until December 2020 (I closed in Sept), Better.com emailed to mention I should expect a check with a refund for 0.5% of my loan amount! It would’ve been very easy (and expected) for them to just keep that fee. Kudos to them for that.

Fast and Transparent
It was superfast. The rates and cost breakups were consistently transparent. The team members from loan expert, processing agent, closing agent everyone was very responsive and a phone call away to resolve any questions or issues. For newbies like me, it was easy for me understand the process, their website is very well designed for it.

Not as easy as expected
You will never be able to directly speak to a loan person. You have to give all your info and explain to an receptionist before you are connected . Most of the time you will not get the person you are dealing with when calling. When sending requested documents, they would request the same documents 4-5 times. The loan process took almost a month to close.

Great experience overall
Great experience overall. I found it easy to reach people through phone or e-mail - all were very helpful and efficient. Their online system for entering information was easy to use and the initial process was much easier than with other companies. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others. Negatives were that you had to check the documents carefully as they changed often. The problem I had was with a second home that also is rented out and ended up being classified as an investment property, which caused an increase in the interest rate and almost caused me to bail. We were able to work it out and I have to say everyone I talked to in at least three states were easy to reach and helpful. The initial estimate on Nerdwallet was not what came up when I went farther, and that was a little annoying (in contrast to another company where the Nerdwallet offer was identical to what they had). Once in their system, the Better.com interface allowed you to update often and then you could lock in when the terms were right - this was a great advantage, with another company you were locked in right at the beginning. Better.com also has the best refinance calculator I have seen - it allows you to compare the benefits from a reduced interest rate or loan term even if your payments don't increase. I found this a great help if you are interested in refinancing to increase net wealth in the future rather than simply lowering monthly payments. Overall, a great company and I recommend them.

Easy to work with and huge savings
Easy to work with, best rates and excellent communication. Not much else you can ask for. They helped me get a loan I had 27 year left on down to 20 years and reduced my payments by $50. My only expense was for the appraisal which they refunded me after we determined I didn't need one. Oh and on closing I got a check for $1600 as well as skipped the month of October so it was a help there too. I went from 4.5% to 2.5% Over 200k saved in total.

The Millennial Way to Buy a Home
This was my first time buying a home and it could not have gone any smoother. I often refer Better to my friends and family as the millennial way to buy a home. The dashboard and tasks kept everything super organized. Never once having to worry about printing and paper signing was a breeze. I was taking care of tasks from my phone on vacation. The entire team, was super helpful and more than willing to devote time to break things down. Also being able to text everyone was the best part. Why shouldn’t we be able to communicate in a biz setting exactly how we do in our personal lives. Felt natural and easy. Totally recommend Better to everyone.
